i got back from haiti last week, and it turns out i really like love their language. i woke up at 4 am this morning after getting called off of work, and couldn't fall back asleep. i found myself watching old jimmy fallon, trying to figure out if there's any hope for the nba this season, listening to this taylor swift song on repeat, and all this somehow evolved into watching youtube videos about how to speak hatian creole. here's your word of the day.
welp, went to canada and saw this grizzly bear in banff. yeah, that guy sure is close. my grandma knows a lot of bear facts and has a lot of bear books. (she was a little horrified that i was this close.) i asked her the other day about some basic guidelines to protect yourself from getting mauled. she had similar instructions as dwight. almost word for word. really.
anyone who's been on this blog for .01 seconds can see i like my nephew a whole lot. i now have a new niece, and i gotta see her for the first time when i went home last month. being an aunt is as fun as they say. after the first day hanging out with this sweaty li'l guy, i was pretty tuckered out. but i can see why my aunt sue would chase us around the house for hours as we pretended she was a monster and sarah was melvin, the innocent hamster. or why my aunt tricia would go on tiring camping trips with our family of 6 little pw zitting's. i like these kids so much. here's a blog post from hannah on father's day. real cute.(the last video is the best).
dear, precious rachel is turning 20 today. i love and miss her while she's gone for the summer. while i was visiting home, we found her first tithing slip. so cute. 42 cents. she is cute like 42 cents of tithing.
also found her baby cap. rachel trying it on.
didn't fit.
after the twilight concert series, a happy day when rachel moved out to ut. i'll be glad when i steal her back.
i love her this much.
she gave me an elvis golden hits once for Christmas, but i just don't think i'll ever be able to pay her back.
my good friend, charity, turns 25 today. she is the best at keeping in touch, is always up for adventure, makes the best green smoothies on sunday mornings, is the best excuse to go to the bay and visit, and always lets me use her car phone. these are the most recent photos of chare from our last visit to SF.
this week a few summers ago, the family went to north carolina for one of the best weeks i can remember. thanks, grandma.:) love north carolina, and i sure like my family.
some days i just wish i was in north carolina, sleeping on a back deck by the warm ocean. doesn't that sound so nice? so sometimes i like this song.
when i hear nat sing this, i feel like i should be in florida with these girls, something like this. (kate is second from the right, of course, in her signature pose)
in the summertime, i think of mungo jerry. everytime. one of my first favorite songs.
it's always a good surprise when i hear this on the radio.
2. the man AND the backpack.
kd and bookbagsssssss
3. old man in cowboy hat
this accessory is a fajillion times better when a 90 year old man dons it.
on my way to nashville, an old man wore this very hat the entire flight. so precious that i tried taking his photo on my phone. well, none of them turned out. but picture the happiest old man in a jazzy with this on his head.
"thank you...google search bar in my web browser that still has my last search typed out in it for letting everyone know that my last search was 'recent fred savage pics.'"
early last december, i was reintroduced to one of southern california's pride and joys. i was flipping through the channels and came upon "don't forget the lyrics" with host mark mcgrath, from sugar ray. i didn't even realize it was him at first, but i stopped on the channel when i realized the back street boys were guest stars that night. when i think of sugar ray, i think of my cross country coach singing "fly" one day after practice when i was in fifth grade. that's right, fifth grade. so you see, sugar ray is SO old. old, but still young enough to come to provo and play for me apparently. this is what he did on saturday, and for that reason i. am. eternally. grateful.:)
i respect those guys for playing with as much vigor as they did. i thought that after fifteen years of playing the same songs, it'd be kind of lame. but they seemed like they LIKED being there!
singing to me and rachel in the crowd
sugar ray likes fun, but they also like jimmer, fist bumps and fist pumps, black ray bans, slicked back hair (a big shocker, we all were counting on frosted tips), and awarding third eye blind t shirts to crowd winners. thank YOU, sugar ray.
some days i learn so many new things, like that dennis the menace's babysitter is buzz from home alone. buzz will only ever be big enug to pull the silly ol' mail train cars.
sometimes i think it feels ok to fail. you know, getting rejected from something or completely botching something that it's apparent to every person can be painful, but then it feels ok because it just reminds you that you're human. but sometimes, it just feels good to win.the cougars have had an epic season for obvious reasons, and i just have felt so good ever since they beat gonzaga on saturday, advancing to the sweet 16.
this video may seem cheesy, and maybe it is. but i like it. and i think it speaks the truth. we're too emotionally invested in these guys to not care as much as well all do. right?!
