i have always loved the song "auld lang syne." i always get a liiiittle emotional at the end of "it's a wonderful life" when they sing it as george bailey realizes how much he's loved/how much he loves everyone. i don't know if that's where i first heard it, but i can remember singing as a kid at my grandma's house on new year's eve, glasses of welch's sparkling grape juice raised. although i didn't know a single word to the song, i loved it. i think grandma was the only one who did. does anybody really?!? i found out the other day WHAT those puzzling words actually were let alone meant.
"should auld/old acquaintance be forgot and never brought to mind?" "for auld lang syne" means something like "for the sake of old times," i like that a lot. it kind of changed the meaning of new year's for me. i guess when i say changed, i mean actually gave it meaning. i guess the new year is a good time to look back at the old year and remember the good ol' days and great people that filled it. with this in mind, i'd like to honor a few of the best moments of 2010.
.grand canyon trip, hiking down to the colorado river with one million flies swarming our heads. but just when we were happy to be in a safe haven from the flies, we turned right around, ran, and jumped into the ice cold river.
.when i kissed richard simmons on the cheek. ohhhh, that wasn't me, never mind that was lisa. i'm uncontrollably jealous.
.kat's wedding back in illinois, dancing to justin bieber with PC and J. was like no time had passed, and i couldn't stop smiling.
.a much needed trip back to see the family in TN
.ski days at sundance...and not-so-ski days at sundance(i.e. going for one run and one run only with KJ and then directly to the park city outlets. found out trying things on with sno pants IS HARD! you got the foofy bum)
.oh yeah, getting my first real job. and then subsequently getting punched in the face and scratched by loving patients. (but seriously, i'm so grateful for a job right now. i'm lucky to have one)
.DTR bench every day of the spring and summer.
.getting destroyed tubing in tahoe. every time destroyed. also so fun i couldn't stop laughing or smiling.
.friday night babysitting ashtrash.
.lots of summer fireworks.
.hazing rachel into byu
i could go on, but no one wants to read all that! thanks friends and family for filling up 2010 with all good things.
here is a little shout out to Grandma. she's always good for a good booty drop or two on new year's eve.
NEVER knew you had a blog. don't let it disappear again. i'll find a way for you to kiss little dickie, as he calls himself.
