La Playa!

We got a nice little break yesterday and went to the beach in Salinas. Lathered on the sunblock of SPF 30...and am completely sunburn free. (Actually still pale...)Mom would be so proud.

This picture is dedicated to Charity Eyre, the queen of jumping pictures. and pictures. 10,000 taken in Jerusalem I think? I've been kind of going crazy with pictures here. It's too bad you feel so touristy when you have your camera out all the time. The problem is that there is just so much that I want to capture!

The beach was very relaxing, and the highlight was going on a little boat ride. We dove off the top of the boat and attempted a dance party on the top of the boat. We realized that none of us really know how to dance to latin music. I really needed my boys Coolio and Hammertime then. But really, I LOVE THE OCEAN. Felt like North Carolina with the family reunion last year, made me miss that.

The Junta, the organization we're working with, provided us lunch at a super nice hotel by the beach. (It's like a $400/night hotel). Therefore, we could eat all the food that was there without worrying about getting sick. It was a buffet, and everyone went crazy like we'd been stranded on an island for 5 years and hadn't eaten anything in forever. The salad bar and steamed vegetables were like dessert. And then of course we ate real dessert!

We rushed home and then headed off to a health fair at a Stake Center. We didn't know we were in charge of doing it until a few days before, but we just taught classes about hypertension, diabetes, CPR, and first aid stuff. Afterwards, we took blood pressures and blood sugars. If they were high, then they were sent to talk to one of our fluent Spanish speakers and he told them what kinds of things they should do to lower their pressures/sugars and if they should go to a doctor to get medicine. The people were very willing and excited to learn, and a lot of people showed up to the health fair in general. It's interesting because it's kinda like a big deal for nursing students from BYU to come down, but we feel like we're really inexperienced and don't really know much about stuff. But I guess we really have been blessed with a lot of knowledge about how to take care of yourself and other things you take for granted.

  1. Stop! Hammertime! As much as I love Latin music, my hips will never move to it the way they are supposed to. We'll definitely have to have some major Hammer and Coolio DPs on Condo Row.
